We will make every effort to reduce discomfort during dental procedure. To prevent patients from experiencing pain during treatment, sometimes we need to administer local anesthesia (numbing medicine). Local anesthetic is delivered in a slow and gentle manner, thus eliminating any pain that may accompany dental treatment. The duration of numbness after treatment varies from patient to patient and depends on what drug was used and where it was given. Generally the numbness wears off after one to three hours. Parents must be careful to watch their child for biting on the lips, cheeks or tongue when the mouth is still numb.
